Orwyn Sandiford was appointed to the position of Vice President, Underwriting, Reinsurance and Claims on April 1, 2009. He is the holder of a Bachelor of Science degree obtained from the University of the West Indies and a graduate of the Kellogg Executive Development Program. He joined the Barbados Mutual Life Assurance Society (now Sagicor Life Inc) in July 1981 as a trainee underwriter and worked his way up the ranks to his current position.
Orwyn spent over 20 years in Employee benefits before moving to Individual Life Risk Management. Over the years, Orwyn has conducted several seminars on Group Life and Health both locally and regionally. He has pursued courses in insurance education and has achieved the HIA (Health Insurance Associate), ACS (Associate Customer Service), FLHC (Fellow Life & Health Claims) and AALU (Associate – Association of Life Underwriters) designations. In 2005, he was elected as President of the Institute of Caribbean Home Office Underwriters (ICHOU) now the Institute of Caribbean Insurance Risk Managers (ICIRM). He was a member of the National Advisory Committee for Strengthening Medical Laboratory Services in Barbados and The Management Committee for Implementation of Quality Management Systems of ISO certification at Barbados Public Health Laboratory.
He was appointed Assistant Vice-President to the Group Life and Health Division in January 1, 1997 and was subsequently reassigned to the position of Chief Underwriter and Assistant Vice-President Risk Administration on April 1, 2006.
